Ross running for town council
By Rob Vogt
Diana Ross wants to be a voice for the community.
That’s why she is running for the vacant position on town council.
She wants to advocate for the issues.
“Listen to the people,” Ross said. “What are people saying about their own community.”
She also wants to be there when decisions are made.
“Be there for our community,” Ross said. “It’s a great community.”
She has been in town 20 years, working in administration, and as an entrepeneur operating home-based businesses for reflexology and Mary K.
She has previous experience on town council and has been involved with different boards such as the food bank and chamber of commerce.
Her involvement also extends to organizations such as Not4Sale, which battles human trafficking; and MyCityCare, which helps people in a variety of ways in the community.
“I believe in volunteering,” Ross said.
She sees several issues in the community.
Traffic is a concern, whether people are going too fast in school zones are not stopping at the four-way stop by the post office.
Ross said it is all about the safety of the community.
She suggests raising awareness by installing flashing signs to make people more aware.
Taxes are always an issue, Ross said.
She will advocate to the government and seek funding from other levels of government before increasing taxes.
Infrastructure is also important, including the maintenance of facilities owned by the town.
Ross said there has to be priorities for everything.
“I would ask a lot of questions,” she said.
Overall, she wants to help the community be prosperous and safe.
“I’ve got a voice,” Ross said. “I stand for good.
“I’m passionate about Claresholm, I want to see it prosper.
“I want to see people have their questions answered.
Ross also wants transparency so people know why decisions are made.
“I like to ask questions,” she said.
