Pelletier running for council

By Rob Vogt
Perry Pelletier has always been about community service.
That’s why he is running for the vacant position on town council.
In fact, his motto is “Community. Service. Safety”
Pelletier spent 40 years in the RCMP in B.C., Saskatchewan and Alberta.
His most recent posting was as sergeant of the Claresholm RCMP detachment, from which he retired a few months ago.
Growing up, he spent a lot of time in Claresholm, because he had a lot of ties here, including his grandmother. Later, his parents Mel and Laurie Pelletier moved here. Mel has passed away, but Laurie is still living here.
“Claresholm has always been a special place for me,” Pelletier said.
As he moves through the community, he is clear he is not going to make any empty promises that he won’t be able to keep.
Instead, he wants to listen and learn, figure out the role of councillor, and see what he can and cannot do. It is all about being part of a team as well.
Some issues he has heard about are ensuring Claresholm makes the best first impression as people enter the town. That means town beautification.
He has also heard concerns about e-bikes and scooters and the need to use them safely for riders and pedestrians.
Pelletier also plans to become more involved with the community to stay connected with ratepayers by volunteering and getting out into the community.
“You have to be involved,” he said. “Getting involved in your community, you get to know the people.”
Pelletier said he thinks he can be a strong voice.
“I will not be afraid to raise concerns,” he said.
He is also very approachable, people-oriented and has a long history of working with the public.
His core values are honesty; integrity; compassion; professionalism; respect; and accountability.
“I’m here to look out for the community’s best interests,” Pelletier said. “Address any concerns the citizens have and do my best.”
