RCMP welcomes new member

To say Chris Vitek’s life is busy would be an understatement.
In fact the new member of the Claresholm detachment of the RCMP has had his entire world change over the past few months.
Vitek graduated from his six-month training at RCMP Depot in Regina on Nov. 29.
Just days later, on Dec. 2, his wife Camille had their first child, a son they named Otto to honour Vitek’s Czech heritage.
Then less than two weeks after that, Vitek started his first posting, working his first shift for the Claresholm RCMP on Dec. 12, with his trainer, Constable Gavin Woods.
“It feels good to be in a pro-police community,” Vitek said.
So far he has been on a variety of calls from mental health to traffic.
“It’s nice to be part of the community and helping people,” Vitek said. “I feel like I’m making a difference.”
Vitek, and his wife, are originally from Calgary. He earned a business degree from Mount Royal University and also worked as an EMT. Camille has an accounting and bookkeeping business.
Vitek gives Camille “super hero status” for being able to balance having their first child with running a business and moving to a new community.
They are glad to be in Claresholm because it is close to family.
“We feel super lucky,” Vitek said.
They are also getting to know the area.
“It’s beautiful, such an awesome area,” Vitek said.
His goal is to learn as much as he can, see what he likes, and figure out what branch of policing he wants to pursue.
Until then he wants to get involved and build some relationships.
“I definitely want to be part of the community,” he said.
To that end, he looks forward to meeting people in the community.
“Come by and say hello,” he said.
