Public warned about rash of break and enters

The Claresholm RCMP is urging residents to protect themselves as much as they can from break and enters.
“We’ve had a rash since middle to late July to September” said Corporal Christian Lafleur.
Usually they have been occurring in the early morning hours.
Lafleur is urging anyone who sees anything suspicious or out of the norm to call the RCMP.
“Even if it turns out to be nothing, it is helpful,” he said, and it is never a waste of time to call the police.
Small bits of information can help establish a pattern or help police paint a broader picture.
Lafleur said there are some things residents can do to reduce the risk of falling prey to a break and enter.
The simplest is for people to lock their doors, windows, and vehicles.
If they don’t, it gives thieves access.
At night, before going to bed, turning on the lights or having motion-activated lights will also deter thieves.
So will having a high-quality recording surveillance system.
Lafleur said if someone has such a system, and a break and enter occurs, police can review the recording and see who may be responsible.
He also emphasizes people should not leave their keys or wallets in their vehicles either.
Anyone with information on any crime can contact the Claresholm RCMP detachment at 403-625-4445.
