With the recent resignation of Donna Courage, town council set the date and process of the by-election to fill the vacancy the resignation left.

At its Aug. 13 meeting, council discussed the process ahead.

Marian Carlson, the town’s chief administrative officer, explained that once a resignation is received by her, it must be filled within 90 days.

That means the latest would be Nov. 11.

Council decided the by-election be held at the Claresholm Community Centre from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15.

Nomination day, that is the only day nomination papers can be filed, would be Sept. 17.

An advanced poll would be held at the community centre from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11.

Institutional polls will also be held on election day at the Claresholm General Hospital, Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre, Porcupine Hills Lodge, Cottonwood Village Retirement Residence, Heritage Manor and Parkside Manor.

Finally, Karine Wilhauk was appointed the chief returning officer, the same role she performed in last October’s general municipal election. Marian Carlson and Blair Bullock were appointed deputy returning officers.
