The first poppies

The Claresholm branch of the Royal Canadian Legion’s annual poppy campaign began on Friday, Oct. 27, with the first poppy. At left is Doug MacPherson, mayor of Claresholm having a poppy pinned on by Margaret Smith, Legion president. Poppies will be on sale around town until the Remembrance Day service on Nov. 11.

We are the champions

The Claresholm Peewee Raiders won the “B” division in the Southern Alberta Minor Football Association by defeating the Lethbridge Junior Coyotes by a score of 8-6 on Monday, Oct. 30, at the University of Lethbridge Community field. It is the first ever championship won by a Claresholm peewee football team. For full story please see page 11.

Granum House Fire

Aftermath – Firefighters from three fire departments – Claresholm, Granum, and Fort Macleod –  battled a house fire blaze in Granum from 1 a.m. until morning on Oct. 22. Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution, there were no reports of injuries as a result of the fire, and at this time police and fire officials are investigating the cause. … Read more

Bottle and can drive

The Claresholm Junior Lifeguard Club (JLC) Vikings held a bottle drive on Friday, Oct. 20. Here, from left are Cody and Jack Watson sorting through just some of the cans and bottles. Funds raised help subsidize the cost of club members going to competitions.
