History will come alive at the Stavely and District Museum this summer.
Once again this year, the museum will be hosting archaeology day.
For children ages eight to 15, Archaeology Day will be on July 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch included.
This year the theme will be ranching.
Children will learn about the 1800s and how things were done back then in Southern Alberta.
They will also do a related craft, such as working with leather, and play games outside related to the topic.
Anyone interested in participating must register with Janice Binmore at jmbmab@gmail.com in order to ensure there are enough food and supplies for everyone. There is a limit of 15 spaces available.
The event is funded by Stavely and District Family and Community Support Services.
The museum will also be hosting an old-fashioned games day on Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closed from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The event is drop-in, for children ages eight and up, and will feature a variety of old-fashioned games.
There will also be a movie night for children eight to 18 years of age, with no adults allowed.
The night will feature a movie, popcorn, and a milkshake made by a 1950s milkshake maker, for everyone who attends.
The museum features a wide variety of displays including an historic bedroom, living room, salon and much more.
It also has a threshing machine, dated between 1906 and 1909, a display on the “Women of World War II”, and a display on the 1950s.
The Stavely museum offers a hands-on experience where visitors can touch, pick up and try various artifacts.
The museum’s hours for July and August are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday to Monday, and closed from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Admission is by donation.
