Basketball ‘A’ boys take league, post-season titles

The Willow Creek Composite High School junior high “A” boys’ basketball team completed a perfect season in the South West Junior High Athletic Association by winning the post-season tournament this past weekend after finishing unbeaten and first in the regular season.
The Cobras hosted the post-season tournament on Feb. 16 and 17 welcoming teams from Nanton, Fort Macleod, two from Pincher Creek, Lundbreck, the Crowsnest Pass, and Kainai.
The Cobras defeated Kainai in the final on Saturday afternoon by a score of 67-38, after establishing an 18-5 lead after the first quarter, extending it to 37-14 at halftime, and 58-26 after three quarters.
Scoring for the Cobras were Grayson McClung with 22 points; Jax DeJong with 15 points; Briggs Baker with 14 points; Easton Wright with 10 points; Brayden Lamb with four points; and Edward Franz with two points.
Claresholm advanced to the final by defeating the Crowsnest Pass by a score of 74-32 in their semi-final game.
Scoring for the Cobras were Jax DeJong with 19 points; McClung with 16 points; Wright with 15 points; Baker with 10 points; Youseff Ehab with six points; Ryker DeJong and Lamb with three points each; and Franz and Deacon Rausch with two points each.
The Cobras opened the tournament on Friday night with an 84-25 win over J.T. Foster of Nanton.
Scoring for Claresholm were Baker and Ehab with 15 points each; Franz, Lamb and McClung with 12 points each; Jax DeJong and Wright with six points each; Rausch with five points; and Ryker DeJong with two points.
