Town welcomes senior services coordinator
By Rob Vogt – Local Press Writer
Seniors now have a person they can go to in town who can help them access resources and services.
Starla Alder started her job on Nov. 7 as the senior services coordinator for Claresholm and District Family and Community Support Services.
“We’re helping seniors with any of their needs,” she said.
“Giving them the resources they need,” she later added.
That can be anything from a chat to helping seniors fill out applications and much more.
Barbara Bell, director of Claresholm and District Family and Community Support Services, said the funding for the position, which will last two years, came from the Claresholm Coordinated Response to Elder Abuse and the Vulcan Regional Elder Abuse Coalition.
She noted Alder’s goal is to connect seniors with the appropriate resources and focus on seniors and their wellness.
Alder said she will do what she can and refer seniors to the appropriate resources beyond that.
She brings a wide variety of experience to the position.
Alder moved to the community about 15 years ago, worked at Big Sky Dodge, and is a yoga instructor and personal trainer. One of the places she teaches yoga is at the Claresholm Seniors’ Drop-in Social Centre.
She is also married with three children.
Alder is part time, working Monday to Thursday afternoons, and all day Tuesday.
Anyone interested in meeting with Starla Alder can phone Claresholm and District Family and Community Support Services at 403-625-4417 and set up an appointment.
“I’m super excited to be here,” she said. “And look forward to meeting everyone.
