RCMP to host a virtual town hall meeting
By Rob Vogt, Local Press Writer
If you have a question for the Claresholm or Nanton detachments of the RCMP, you will have your chance to ask it near the end of the month.
Sergeant Rob Harms, who commands both detachments, said he initially planned to do an in-person town hall.
However, the current COVID-19 health guidelines have compelled the meeting to go online.
It is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. with the RCMP utilizing Claresholm’s new community multi-use building and town hall and its equipment.
“We’re going to livestream a virtual town hall meeting,” Harms said.
The meeting will start with an update on the work of the Claresholm and Nanton detachments. Harms, some local members from both detachments, and representatives from the RCMP district will be present. Then, the town hall will be open to questions the public can direct by e-mail and the RCMP will address them as they come in.
“It’s a chance to meet us, connect with us,” Harms said. “(And) ask any questions they see fit.”
The goal, he said, is to increase transparency and maintain trust with the public.
