Tribute to athletes

The lights have gone dim on all high school sports with the cancellation of classes back in March to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It has meant not only that student athletes have not been able to compete, but that celebrations to honour their efforts have also been curtailed. In particular, Grade 12 students, who are graduating, lost the remainder of their high school athletic careers. Last week, the Alberta Schools Athletic Association sent out a message encouraging institutions to light up their fields, if they have lights, to pay tribute to those Grade 12 student athletes. On Monday night, May 4, the lights at the field at Willow Creek Composite High School were turned on and this simple “Thank you” message appeared on the scoreboard.
