Town council repeals $2.8 million borrowing bylaw

The cancellation of the plans to turn a former unused Claresholm school into a multi-use community building required town council to repeal the borrowing bylaw for the project.

The plan was to develop a multi-use community building with a total budget a $3.5 million, with $2.8 million of that to be financed.

The project would repurpose the building for Town of Claresholm administration, day care, Family Community Support Services as well as some community space.

During the design phase it was determined the project was going to run significantly over budget.

Claresholm town council decided at their May 27 meeting they would not proceed with a renovation project and decided to explore other options.

When a new direction is decided with cost estimates a borrowing bylaw can be reintroduced at council.
