Chamber readies for meeting

The Claresholm and District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their annual general meeting in a few weeks and preparations are under way.

At their Jan. 16 regular monthly meeting, chamber members were updated on planning by Amanda Zimmer, chamber president.

She said the annual general meeting will be on Feb. 13 at Casa Roma Pizza and Steakhouse.

The guest speaker will be Nick White of Burgundy Oak, an entrepreneur who achieved fame by appearing on CBC Television’s “Dragon’s Den” with his business idea.

The cost is $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members.

Another feature is free photographic head shots for all those who attend.

Zimmer noted there are director positions available on the board for those who may be interested.

Website contract

President Amanda Zimmer reported a new contract for the chamber’s website has been negotiated with the Virtual Inch who do the website.

The value of the contract is $800 with 12 hours of technical support broken into three blocks as part of the package.

President’s report

Zimmer reported the chamber made a memorial donation of $100 to the Willow Creek Agricultural Society in memory of Arnold Norgard, father of Lorraine Norgard who is the chamber’s secretary treasurer.

The chamber is also a sponsor for an initiation hockey tournament the weekend of Feb. 1 and 2, and is providing a $500 sponsorship to the upcoming Winter Festival in February.

Memberships

Zimmer also noted memberships were due on Dec. 31, and invoices have been sent, payment is due as soon as possible. Payment can be mailed in, made online through PayPal, or in person by cheque, cash, debit, or credit card at the Claresholm Local Press. Members also voted to set up electronic money transfer for the chamber to accept payments.

Old Fashioned Christmas

The annual Old Fashioned Christmas took place, the late-night shopping event that kicked ff the Christmas shopping season, took place on Nov. 30.

A lights and decoration contest was held in conjunction with the event, attracting 10 entries, and the winner was Willowtree Designs.

Next meeting

The next regular meeting of the Claresholm and District Chamber of Commerce will be at noon on Wednesday, March 20 at Douros.
