Persistence pays off.
The Claresholm Minor Hockey Association was notified on Dec. 13, their application for a $125,000 Community Facilities Effacement Program grant had been approved and a cheque was forthcoming.
The news was delivered to Claresholm town council at their Jan. 28 meeting in a report from administration.
The report stated in 2018, the Claresholm Arena underwent extensive renovations to the floor and boards. This project took place with the assistance of community groups and members of the public.
The condition of the floor and boards was such that, renovations needed to take place even before outside funding had been realized.
After much hard work, the grand opening was held Sept. 24, 2018.
Claresholm Minor Hockey had applied for the Community Facility Enhancement Program grant to assist with the costs of renovation under the large stream category in early 2018. The large stream category covers projects in the $125,001 to $1 million range.
Due to oversubscription of the grant, Claresholm Minor Hockey was unsuccessful in their application.
However, in the fall of 2018, Claresholm Minor Hockey applied to the Community Facility Enhancement Program in the small stream category for grants up to $125,000 for this project.
Confirmation was received by Claresholm Minor Hockey this application has been approved and that a cheque will be forthcoming.
