There was a full gym at the Stavely Elementary School April 19 for a bingo fundraiser to replace aging playground equipment, that raised about $1,000.
At the Stavely school there are two sets of playground equipment, one that is 17 years old and another 30 to 40 years old and in need of replacement.
“Children are getting splinters from it. It needs to be replaced,” said Jill Cook, the vice-president of the Parents Advisory Association.
Parents have been raising funds for the estimated $350,000 needed to replace the old playground equipment and so far have raised $40,000 that will be used for matching grants.
The bingo was so popular extra tables and chairs had to be brought into the gym before the bingo began.
Besides the bingo at the Stavely school the Parents Advisory Association has planned two more fundraisers, this school year, including a banquet dinner and auction May 26, and a turkey bingo in September.
