Woven into the fabric of Southern Alberta culture is a battle against the elements.

People have braved the cold and snow for generations to express themselves and create a vibrant cultural community.

So, in a way, it was fitting to see artist after artist take the stage on Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29, as the snow fell, to celebrate the best Claresholm has to offer for the 2018 Culture Days celebration at the Claresholm and District Museum exhibit hall.

In addition to music, the day featured highland and First nations dance, demonstrations of drawing and fabric arts, and much more.

Mayor Doug MacPherson brought greetings from the Town of Claresholm while John Barlow, MP for Foothills, brought greetings from Ottawa.

“How important (it is) celebrating arts and culture is to our community,” he said in an interview during Culture Days. “We have such amazing talent.”

Barlow paid tribute to the artists and facilities that are part of every community in his riding.

“Sometimes we overlook what’s in our own backyard,” he said.

Barlow also took a moment to talk about the Claresholm and District Museum.

“This is one of the best,” he said.

He also encouraged everyone to take the opportunity and celebrate arts and culture.

“Walk around and see some of the displays,” he said
