Cobra girls host annual basketball tournament

The Willow Creek Composite High School senior varsity girls’ basketball team played three tough games in their home tournament this past weekend.

The Cobras welcomed teams from Fort Macleod, Eagle Butte, Edmonton, Kainai, Picture Butte, Foremost and Pincher Creek for their annual Cobra Classic basketball tournament on Feb. 16 and 17.

Claresholm opened the tournament on Friday, Feb. 16, with a thrilling, end-to-end game that went into double overtime before Matthew Halton High School of Pincher Creek prevailed by a score of 58-54.

Scoring for the Cobras were Kelby Keeley with 16 points; Tia Woodruff with eight points; Katie Hart with seven points; Emily Chartrand and Kayla Minor with six points each; Kitty Fox and Katie Hoffman with four points each; and Selena Anderson with three points.

The loss put Claresholm on the consolation date and set up a date with the Foremost Falcons who beat the Cobras by a score of 72-36.

Scoring for Claresholm were Chartrand with 15 points; Hart and Keeley with six points each; Minor and Woodruff with three points each; Fox with two points; and Anderson with a point.

The Cobras’ final game was against Maurice Lavallee of Edmonton, who beat Claresholm by a score of 55-53 in another tough, close game.

Scoring for the Cobras were Keeley with 12 points; Chartrand and Fox with nine points each; Woodruff with eight points; Hoffman with six points; Minor with four points; Hart with three points; and Anderson with two points.
