July 29, 1944 – February 24, 2019
Our mom, grandma, sister, friend and wife Karen (Berg) Bishop was one of the good ones. Born to the hard working farm family of Anker and Dagny Berg, Karen grew up as part of a large extended family including siblings – Warren, Lorraine, Doug and Vivian. After graduation Karen went on to become a Nurse and she graduated from the Calgary General Hospital. She later earned her Bachelor of Nursing from Athabasca University. She worked in a variety of settings as a nurse including the doctor’s clinic, acute care and long term care.
Karen was a dedicated community volunteer giving tirelessly of her time and talents, most recently serving as chair of Meals on Wheels and on the Claresholm and District Health Foundation. Never one to look for recognition or long flowing epitaphs, Karen’s message for the world was shown through humble service, generosity and love.
Mom told us often that her greatest joy was spending time with family and she especially treasured her time with her grandchildren. Her passing has left a hole in our hearts and we will miss her forever. We will miss her sharp wit, wise counsel and warm smile.
Karen is survived by her family – husband Merv; children Mark (Michelle), Kathy (Rob), Lori (Darryl) and Jeff (Jodi); her grandchildren Blake, Eden, Josh, Siena, Sofia, Jenna, Max, Lukas, Cooper, Sage and Cameron; her siblings Vivian, Doug and Warren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She is also survived by her special friends Sharon, Bonnie and Therry. Karen was a woman of great faith and waiting for her on the other side are her mom, dad, and sister Lorraine.
A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church (4304-2 Street West, Claresholm, Alberta T0L 0T0). In lieu of financial donations, we ask that you carry on Karen’s legacy and volunteer your time and talents with a service group or organization. God speed Mom.
