West Meadow Elementary School’s new principal will be very familiar with the community.
On May 22, the Livingstone Range School Division announced Dean Heck has been named principal of West Meadow Elementary School in Claresholm beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.
Heck attended school in Claresholm and is a graduate of Willow Creek Composite High School, holds bachelor of science and education degrees from the University of Alberta and has more than 16 years of teaching experience.
For the past nine years he has served as vice principal, acting principal, and principal of a Grade 9 to 12 school in the Edmonton area.
It was noted Superintendent Darryl Seguin is excited to welcome Heck back to his roots.
“Dean’s educational experience, love for the community, and his commitment to building relationships with students, staff, and parents to create a positive school culture will serve the West Meadow Elementary School community well,” said Seguin.
Heck said he is honoured to accept the role of principal of West Meadow Elementary School.
“It is a true privilege to lead, support and grow alongside the incredible staff, students and families that make up this vibrant school,” he said. “I look forward to building on the strong foundations already in place at West Meadow and to fostering an inspiring, inclusive learning environment for all.”
As a proud Claresholm native, Heck is especially excited to become actively involved in the community once again.
A news release from the school division indicated this opportunity is particularly meaningful to Heck as his father also served as principal at West Meadow Elementary School.
Heck is honoured to carry on that legacy and contribute to a school that holds a special place in his heart. He and his partner, Stephanie look forward to golfing, travelling, and exploring the beautiful mountains near Claresholm.
