Volunteer recognized for hard work throughout the community

Mary Holgate has been helping and recognizing others in the community, so it was only fitting that she herself was recognized for her hard work and effort.
Holgate has been the driving force behind the community’s International Women’s Day awards.
At the conclusion of the awards at the Claresholm Social Centre on Saturday, March 8, one more award was presented in front of a packed house.
Marian Rooney, who is part of the International Women’s Day awards committee, said the presentations had concluded but the committee wanted to recognize one more person.
“It is truly an honour to stand before you today as we recognize a remarkable woman,” Rooney said. “Someone who has dedicated her time, talent, and heart to making our community a better place. We are here not just to acknowledge her achievements but to celebrate the impact she has had on all of us.
“There are people who serve, and then there are those who lead by example, uplifting those around them. Mary is one of those rare individuals whose presence, dedication, and kindness have left an unforgettable mark on our community.”
Rooney noted Holgate has brought together people through her catering where she wears many hats with the same purpose – to serve, uplift, and inspire.
Her catering has not just been about food but creating moments; bringing people together in times of joy, and in times of need. Whether it is a community gathering, a fundraiser or a simple meal shared with love, Holgatew’s work is a reminder food is more than sustenance – it is a connection.
“Beyond her talents in the kitchen, Mary has earned the respect in our community,” Rooney said. “She has been recognized as a leader, a role model, and an asset to our community. She steps up when help is needed, she speaks up when a voice is required, and she lifts others as she climbs.”
Rooney pointed to the recent women and heart disease event, where Holgate’s impact was seen in the stories of those who worked with her, learned from her, and been supported by her.
“On a personal note,” Rooney said. “We have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand how much Mary gives to others. Whether it’s through generosity, or simply her warm smile, she has made a difference in ways that cannot always be measured – but can certainly be felt.”
