Golf club ‘getting back to normal’
By Rob Vogt Local Press Writer
After two years of health restrictions to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Bridges at Claresholm Golf Club has opened a new season without any restrictions.
“We’re hopefully getting back to normal,” said Lyle Broderson, golf pro and manager at the club.
The course opened on April 1 and seemed to winter well.
Broderson said it is a little dry, but that is the case in all of Southern Alberta.
With no restrictions, the golf club was able to have groups of four play together.
Tournaments are also back on. The first one is the Willow Creek Composite High School grad fundraising tournament on May 7.
Other annual tournaments are back as well including the fire department, Kinsmen, and Lions Club tournaments.
The club is also looking at putting on its first annual men’s scramble.
Leagues will be starting earlier this year, in May.
Lessons are back on too, as is the junior program, although the details are still being worked out.
The driving range is open to the public every day. Players can buy a season’s pass or buckets of balls as they need them.
The club has welcomed Jeff Long as its new superintendent. He brings a wealth of experience from his time in Calgary.
The club is always making improvements too, including upgrades to the number four tee box.
“All in all it will make it more user-friendly,” Broderson said.
Punch cards are on sale for the course, and the pro shop should be fully stocked by May, although there have been some supply chain issues.
Putters, the restaurant in the golf clubhouse, is also opening and offering specials.
Broderson invites everyone to check out the Bridges at Claresholm Golf Club.
“It’s nice to be back to normal,” he said. “We’re looking forward to a good season – weather permitting.”
