On August 11, 2026, Jan Roo passed away suddenly due to heart failure in Claresholm, AB, only one month before his 75 birthday. Jan was born in Holland and immigrated to Canada when he was 10 months old. He grew up in Edmonton, and eventually settled to raise his family near Stony Plain, AB.
After his primary career in the steel industry, Jan worked for North Central Co-op until retirement, where he grew to love contributing and volunteering for his community. Jan had an active life, and he loved to build garages, sheds, decks and many other things, and also loved to help others with any building projects. He also enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, gardening, watching car races and giving a helping hand to anyone around him that needed it.
When he retired, Jan found his perfect retirement house in Claresholm and moved there to be closer to family in Calgary. He quickly made friends with his wonderful neighbours and was able to spend quality time regularly with his nearby family.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his daughters Jody (Joe), Robin (Hein) and Christine, grandsons Jeremy, Austin, Seth and Bentley, and his beloved dog Star. Jan will also be dearly missed by his best friend Judy, whose friendship he cherished dearly. He is also survived by his siblings Chieni and Berend, many nieces and nephews, and will be missed his nearby neighbours, and many other friends close and afar. Jan was predeceased by his parents Klaas and Annie and sisters Henny and Rika.
