Seannon Ocampo is the 2025 Claresholm Junior Citizen of the Year.
He was honoured at Volunteer Appreciation put on by Claresholm and District Family and Community Support Services on Tuesday, April 14 at the Claresholm Community Centre.
Avery Gertner, last year’s junior citizen of the year, presented the award.
“He is a remarkable young leader whose dedication, character, and commitment to his community truly set him apart,” Gertner began.
As treasurer of this year’s graduation committee, Ocampo plays an active role among the officers who meet every Monday morning to plan for their upcoming graduation.
Together, they develop fundraising initiatives and organize volunteer efforts to support their class.
“His commitment and willingness to contribute consistently demonstrate maturity well beyond his years,” Gertner said.
Ocampo served as assistant captain of the Under-18 Claresholm Thunder hockey team for the 2025-2026 season.
“He led with quiet strength and consistency throughout the season,” Gertner said. “He set the tone through his actions – showing respect, teamwork, camaraderie and commitment both on and off the ice, earning the trust of his teammates and coaches. His leadership reflected not only skills but integrity and accountability.”
Since the 2023-2024 season, he has also volunteered his time to assist younger hockey players during practices, supporting their development and encouraging them to grow in sport.
In addition to his athletic commitments, Ocampo has excelled in culinary arts, earning gold at the Regional Skills Competition for the second consecutive year.
This achievement requires countless hours of practice, discipline, and perseverance – all while maintaining his responsibilities as a student.
“His passion and work ethic are evident in everything he does,” Gertner said.
Ocampo’s commitment to service began early.
From 2018 to 2023, he volunteered as a program assistant for the Claresholm Skating Club, supporting young skaters and helping create a positive learning environment. During his junior high years, he also took the initiative to assist peers with mathematics, quietly offering help and encouragement to those who needed it.
Beyond school and extracurricular activities, Ocampo gives back to the community.
He assists whenever he can alongside fellow youth in the Claresholm Filipino Society, contributing his time and energy to support community events and initiatives.
“His willingness to help and stay connected to his roots highlights his strong sense of community and service,” Gertner said.
In addition, he also works part-time at Tim Horton’s where he not only fulfills his responsibilities but also steps up to help train others whenever he can – demonstrating leadership even in the workplace.
Ocampo is well-liked across different circles of friends, a reflection of his respectful nature and ability to connect with others. He is a man of few words, but his actions speak volumes. He leads not through recognition or attention, but through consistency, humility, and a genuine desire to contribute.
“Whether in the classroom, on the ice, in the kitchen, or within the community, Seannon consistently strives to do his best and uplift those around him,” Gertner said.
“You may not always hear Seannon’s voice in a crowd, but you will always feel his impact – and that is what makes him truly unforgettable.”
