M.D. hosts bike rodeo at Stavely school

It was a chance for students at Stavely Elementary School to hear more about bike safety, rules of the road and practise what they learned.
The Municipal District of Willow Creek hosted a bike rodeo in the school gym on Friday, Sept. 18.
The M.D. provides community peace officer services to the Town of Stavely, so it was a natural fit.
Community Peace Officer Scott Elford said it is important for them to interact with the community and youth.
One of the primary job of the peace officer program is to promote safety.
“We thought this would be a perfect opportunity,” Elford said, adding students are back in town and riding to and from school on their bikes.
“It’s a good time to reinforce bike safety.”
The presentation included going over the rules of the road with students, proper helmet use, general safety tips and more.
Students then were given a bike and run through an obstacle course.
It was a chance for them to practise and put to use the skills they just learned.
The bike rodeo was put on by the M.D. of Willow Creek with the assistance of the Town of Nanton, Vulcan County, M.D. of Pincher Creek, Stavely Fire Department, and deputy fire chief for the M.D. of Willow Creek.
They also utilized a trailer provided by the Town of Coaldale that provided bikes, helmets and the obstacle course at no charge.
