Council updated on discretionary funds

The Municipal District of Willow Creek council was provided an update recently on its discretionary funds, which are used to meet donation requests from community organizations and activities.
At its Aug. 19 meeting, council was presented a report on how much funding each councillor has in their discretionary account.
Each councillor is provided $1,500 annually to meet requests, and that funding was added at the beginning of 2026, to what was left over from 2025, if anything.
Council was advised, by Johanne Hannas, the M.D.’s director of finance, the current total discretionary funds of council as of Aug. 19, 2026 are $4,540.
The discretionary funds are broken down as follows:
• Division 1, Coun. John Van Driesten, $745;
• Division 2, Coun. Cecilie Fleming, $725;
• Division 3, Reeve Maryanne Sandberg, $320;
• Division 4, Coun. Glen Alm, $600;
• Division 5, Coun. Earl Hemmaway, $150;
• Division 6, Coun. Evan Berger, $1,150;
• Division 7, Coun. Brian Nelson, $850.
