It has become a Halloween tradition in Claresholm – going down to the community centre and getting your pants scared of, if you choose to.
The seventh annual Claresholm Community Haunted House will take place at the community centre on Friday, Oct. 30 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a no-scare hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 31, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with no scare from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission is by cash donation, if you can, with all proceeds going to the Christmas Hamper Program.
Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Donations of candy are being welcomed and accepted at IGA, Pharmasave, Home Hardware and the Claresholm Local Press.
Cash donations are also being accepted to assist with expenses and can be made at the Local Press, Credit Union, or by eTransfer to ch20halloween@gmail.com.
Organizer Lorri Rondeau invited everyone to come out to the haunted house.
She said for those who have been before, there is a completely different layout this year than ever before, with both the entrance and exit at the front of the building.
It is also for a good cause.
Every year the event raises between $1,000 and $1,200 which goes back into the community.
Rondeau said they also need volunteers who are 16 years or older.
Volunteers are needed for set up; spooking; as door people; and for take down.
“In every area we could use some (volunteers),” Rondeau said.
She added every bit helps, whether someone can help for an hour or a day.
“We appreciate all the time we get from everybody,” Rondeau said.
Anyone interested in volunteering or more information can phone 403-625-9213, e-mail ch20halloween@gmail.com, or visit the Facebook page “Claresholm Community Haunted House”.
Everyone is encouraged to come out to the community haunted house, which is something that is a passion for Rondeau.
“I love Halloween, it pleases me to scare people,” Rondeau said with a smile. “(And) see the joy in everybody as they’re coming through.”
She really enjoys the screaming and the laughter.
“And we’re doing good for our community by fundraising for a local group,” Rondeau said.
