Volunteers build new play structure at playschool
By Rob Vogt
Years of hard work and dedication have paid off as volunteers put up a new playstructure at Learn-A-Lot Playschool.
The equipment arrived Thursday, May 22, the site was prepared and the playstructure was assembled and installed on Friday, May 23.
Tristyn Warburton, chair of the playschool board, said fundraising began when the playschool moved to its current location in 2021, when Carol Van Rootselaar was the teacher.
“Since then, the board’s been working on making it happen,” Warburton said.
The total cost of the new playstructure is a little more than $30,000.
The board raised as much of that as possible through various fundraisers such as selling gingerbread kits; paint a planter; working a casino every three years and more.
The project also received donations from service clubs such as the Claresholm Lions Club; Stavely Elks; and Stavely Royal Purple Elks.
Warburton stressed they also received a lot of help from local businesses, and a lot of volunteers.
The playschool board is made up of Tristyn Warburton, chair; Breanne Tornquist, vice-chair; Laqueta Heitrich, treasurer; Kathy Mann, secretary; Lindsay Douros, fundraising officer; and Sarah Lauscher and Jaimie Roemmele, members at large.
It was noted former board member Kim Hand also did a great deal of work.
The teachers are Julia Moore; Breanna Seeman; and Alison Tolley subs.
