Claresholm RCMP report for the month of April

The following complaints/calls for service were made to the Claresholm RCMP Detachment during the month of April, 2025. Not every call/file is listed below, but just the most relevant ones. Some complaints received were later determined to be unfounded or not police matters.
Traffic related
• Six reportable traffic collisions.
• Two non-reportable traffic collisions.
• Nineteen complaints of speeding, with 15 charges laid.
• Ten complaints of other moving violations.
• Three complaints of other non-moving violations, with one charge laid.
• One complaint of failing to stop or remain at an accident scene, that is a hit and run.
• One roadside alcohol-related driving suspension was issued.
• Two complaints of intersection-related violations.
• Two reports of driving while disqualified/licence suspension, under provincial statutes, with one charge laid.
• One complaint of driving while prohibited, a Criminal Code offence.
• Three complaints of use of electronic handheld devices/distracted driving, with two charges laid.
• One traffic complaint under municipal bylaws.
• One report of flight from a peace officer, with no pursuit involved.
• Three written traffic offence warnings were issued.
Impaired operation related offences
• Two complaints of alcohol-related impaired driving/over 0.08.
Other provincial statutes
• One Liquor Act offence complaint, with one charge laid.
• One complaint under the Trespass Act.
• One complaint under the Tobacco Tax Act, with one charge laid.
• Seven Mental Health Act complaints.
• One complaint under the Coroner’s Act.
• Two Firearms Act, other activities, complaints.
• Three reports under other provincial statutes, not specified, other activities.
• One report under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, other activities.
• Six complaints under municipal bylaws, other, noise complaints.
Other Criminal Code
• One complaint of disobeying an order of the court.
• One complaint under the Family Orders and Agreements Enforcement Assistance Act.
• One report of child pornography, transmitting, making available, distributing or selling.
• One complaint under the Canada Elections Act, offences.
Persons offences
• Two complaints of uttering threats against a person.
• One complaint of harassing communications.
• One complaint of criminal harassment.
• One complaint of sextortion.
• One complaint of attempted abduction of a person under 14.
• One complaint of administering a noxious thing.
Property offences
• One complaint of theft over $5,000.
• Three complaints of theft under $5,000.
• Four complaints of theft from a motor vehicle under $5,000.
• Two complaints of theft under $5,000, shoplifting.
• One complaint of theft of truck.
• Four complaints of mischief, damage to property.
• Two complaints of fraud less Than $5,000.
• Two complaints of possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000, with one charge laid.
• Thirteen complaints of mischief to property, lawful enjoyment.
• Two complaints of a break and enter into a business.
• One complaint of unauthorized use of credit card data, with one charge laid.
• One complaint of unauthorized use of a computer.
Drug offences
• One complaint under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, other activities.
Other police activities
• Nine calls for suspicious persons/vehicles/property.
• Five complaints of abandoned vehicles.
• One complaint for service of an emergency protection order.
• Six animal-related calls.
• Three false alarm calls.
• Four lost/found property calls.
• One breach of the peace calls.
• Seven well-being check requests.
In total, there were 202 calls/requests for service/assistance for the month of April, with 192 of those calls being deemed as founded complaints resulting in 28 charges being laid. A total of 79 files currently remain under investigation.
