Claresholm RCMP report for the month of January

The following complaints/calls for service were made to the Claresholm RCMP Detachment during the month of January, 2024. Not every call/file is listed below, but just the most relevant ones. Some complaints received were later determined to be unfounded.

Traffic related
• Four traffic collisions resulting in non-fatal injuries;
• Seven reportable traffic collisions;
• Four non-reportable traffic collisions;
• 21 charges for speeding;
• One charge for other moving violations;
• Three charges for other non-moving violations;
• Three charges for distracted driving – cell phones;
• One charge/roadside driving suspension – alcohol related;
• Eight check stops were conducted – including by other agencies;
• One impaired driving charge.

Other provincial statutes
• Three reported 911 Act offences;
• Three Coroner’s Act complaints;
• Three Family Law Act complaints;
• One Fire Prevention Act complaint;
• Five Mental Health Act complaints;
• One Trespass Act complaint;
• One Family Orders and Agreements Enforcement Act complaint;
• One Tobacco Act complaint.

Drug related
• One trafficking of drugs complaint.

Persons offences
• One complaint of criminal harassment;
• Three complaints of harassing communications;
• One complaint of uttering threats;
• Six complaints of assault;
• One complaint of pointing a firearm.

Property offences
• Two complaints of theft under $5,000;
• One complaint of theft from a motor vehicle;
• One complaint of a theft of SUV;
• Two complaints of mischief – enjoyment of property;
• One complaint of fraud over $5,000;
• One complaint of fraud less than $5,000;
• One complaint of identity fraud;
• One complaint of a break and enter into a business;
• One complaint of a break and enter – other.

Other police activities
• Four calls for abandoned vehicles;
• Two calls for suspicious persons/vehicles/property;
• Two animal-related calls;
• Three false alarm calls;
• Three lost/found property calls;
• One report of a missing person;
• Two breach of peace calls;
• Two assist the general public calls;
• 12 well-being check calls.

In total, there were 195 calls for service for January, 2024.
The Claresholm RCMP would also like to remind the public of the recent Operation Cold Start that ran during the cold snap in January. This should be an initiative all year and residents are urged to not leave vehicles running unattended, especially with the keys and/or valuables left inside.
