‘A’ basketball boys win zone championship

The Willow Creek Composite High School junior high “A” boys’ basketball team, capped off a dream season by winning the South Zone Junior High Athletic Association 3J championship on the weekend.
The Cobras travelled to Immanuel Christian School in Lethbridge for zone championship tournament held on March 1 and 2.
The tournament drew teams from Matthew Halton High School of Pincher Creek; W.R. Myers of Taber; Parkside of Redcliff; Coalhurst; Kate Andrews of Coaldale; and Kainai, as well as the host team, and the Cobras.
Claresholm faced the Immanuel Christian Eagles in the championship final on Saturday, March 2, defeating their hosts in overtime by a score of 77-68 to take gold.
The Cobras advanced to the final by defeating Kate Andrews of Coaldale in a semi-final earlier that same day in a squeaker by a score of 63-61.
Claresholm began the tournament on Friday, March 1, with an 81-46 win over Coalhurst in their opening game.
The Cobras victory ends a season that also saw them go undefeated in their league and win the regular season and post-season championships in the South West Junior High Athletic Association.
