Retro night basketball alumni games fill the high school gym

Willow Creek Composite High School turned back the hands of time, hosting a retro night and basketball alumni games.
The stands were full as players from the last four decades returned to the school on Friday night, March 31.
The current senior varsity girls’ took on the ladies’ alumni, who brought their “A” game, winning by a score of 70-43.
Scoring for the Cobras were Anastasia Skelliter with 30 points; Janell Lange and Kailynn Vogelaar with four points each; Abbey Biteranta and Hannah Leader with two points each; and Emilia Quinteros made a foul shot.
Scoring for the alumni were Ruth Schuepbach with 19 points; Brooke Sabey (née Hall) with 12 points; Candace Bullock (née Bohnet) with 10 points; Stacey Patterson (née Bohnet), Maya Spencer and Tristyn Warburton with six points each; Shavana Firth (née Perry) with five points; Nicole Dola (née Bohnet) with four points; and Liana Massie with two points.
The current senior varsity boys’ team ran into a bigger, stronger much more experienced team, losing by a score of 101-49.
Scoring for the Cobras were Hayden McClung with 18 points; Blake Davis with 10 points; Keane Dela Cruz and Lucas Read with six points each; Ethan Hall with four points; Yorick De Ruysscher and Tyce DeJong with two points each; and Merrick Whelan made a foul shot.
Virtually every member of the alumni team scored as Nic Harder had 17 points; Vince Gripping had 14 points; Scott Lamb had 11 points; Daxton Woodward and Jackson Wright each had 10 points; Ethan Perry with eight points; Jason Bohnet with seven points; Seth Roemmele and Ross Van Rootselaar had six points each; Trey Perry had four points; and Colin Massie, Gaven Moore, Matt Roemmele and Tason Perry had two points each.
The night also featured a dunk contest and skills competition, and halftime performances by the Junior Cobras cheerleaders.
All proceeds from the event go to the Willow Creek Composite High School Sports Society.
