October 29, 1955 – March 15, 2023
Brenda McLeod (née Fjordbotten) passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2023 at the age of 67.
She will be lovingly remembered by not only her daughters Raine and Bobbie, but her brothers Paul, Kevin (Diane), and Wayne Fjordbotten, her many nieces and nephews, and her lifelong friends.
She is predeceased by her husband of over 40 years, Ron McLeod, and her parents Roy and Joyce Fjordbotten (née Donahue).
Born in Claresholm and raised on the family farm in Granum, Brenda spent time skating on the slough that Roy filled for her every year and she often tricked her brothers into eating mud pies she’d made special just for them. She loved where the mountains met the prairies and always called southern Alberta “down home.”
Ron and Brenda started their family in the small mountain town of Grande Cache where in 1985, Brenda opened Grande Finale Interiors, a successful interior design business. She loved to make things beautiful, as evidenced by her stunning gardens wherever she lived. She was a creative, skilled, and fiercely independent do-it-herself-er who took advantage of Ron’s occasional vacations to do things like tear out a boring closet to replace it with a gorgeous, custom, built-in china cabinet. She was also a wonderful sewist who made her daughters intricate and impressive Halloween costumes every year.
Brenda loved sitting in the sun (especially on a beach) and one of her favourite memories was her solo trip to the east coast in the 70s (she still had the map).
Her daughters fondly remember Brenda waking them in the middle of the night to climb onto the roof to watch northern lights and fireworks. She hosted the best Christmas party in Grande Cache every year, loved loud rock music, concerts, and puddle-jumping in the rain when the girls were young.
She will be sorely missed.
