Erick, Marie

February 26, 1939 – April 23, 2023

It is with profound sadness that the family of Frances Marie Erick announce her passing on April 23, 2023 at the age of 84.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Garth (Jen) and Gwynne (Dalyn); grandchildren Odin (Amy) and Terril; brothers Robert (Margery) McDougall and Reg (Linda) McDougall; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.  She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Melvin, her daughter, Heather, and sister Maralyn Wintersgill.
Marie treasured growing up in Saskatchewan. There she learned the value of small town connections and the support of community. Helping others and learning were her passions.  As a young woman she chose to pursue a career in nursing.  While training to be a nurse she met her future husband and followed him to Alberta. Here, they started their family, moved as needed where the work took them then started their own consulting business.  She enjoyed learning about the oil and gas industry as well as persevering through the ups and downs of it. She felt blessed in her retirement years when she moved to Claresholm in 2012. Being close to family and having opportunities to help others made terrific memories these past years. She loved watching her grandsons’ activities and spending time with family. She adored doing handy-crafts, growing plants, sitting in her yard enjoying her gardens and watching birds.  She made time to meet new people, visit, volunteer, attend church and sing for others.  Marie looked forward to every day. Her kindness will be remembered by all who knew her.
Her final days were spent bravely battling cancer.  We are grateful for all the compassionate health care professionals at Home Care, the Claresholm General Hospital, Claresholm Medical Centre and the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre.
Please remember her while you make time for family, friends and the things that bring you joy.
At Marie’s request, there will be a private family celebration of life later this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation to the Claresholm Health Foundation or a charity of your choice.
