RCMP discusses back to school, recent calls

The start of the school year means lots of children will be out and about during the mornings and afternoons.
Police will be conducting school patrols during school hours to ensure speed limits are followed.
Claresholm and Nanton operate as one RCMP detachment and have responded to 163 total calls in this two-week period. Some call to mention are:

Claresholm
• 31 traffic complaints, seven tickets issued
• Four break and enter.
• Four motor vehicle collisions.
• Two animal calls.
• 10 requests to assist other agencies.
• Three drug-related offences.
• Two calls under the Mental Health Act.

Nanton
• 13 traffic complaints, six tickets issued.
• Three animal calls.
• Six requests to assist other agencies.
• Two motor vehicle collisions.
• Five reports of theft.
• One deceased individual.
• Two reports of harassment.

At the present time, on the traffic side, police are focusing on speeding and stop sign violations. In relation to criminal activity, police are constantly adjusting and improving strategies to track break and enter.
Currently, bike thefts are common so safety measures such as locks and storage inside aide in prevention.
When speaking about crime prevention, criminals are opportunists, therefore things such as lights, cameras, and motion detectors are usually strong enough measures to motivate criminals to look elsewhere.
Claresholm RCMP is always looking to be involved in the community, and in the upcoming months will be conducting various presentations at the senior facilities and schools. This allows for direct engagement and an opportunity to get to know the police officers that live here. Topics will include: avoiding being victim to fraud; dangers of social media; stranger danger; and street safety.
On Sept. 20, the Claresholm and Nanton RCMP Detachments conducted a joint warrant round-up. A total of 20 warrants were executed, with eight in Nanton and 12 in Claresholm. Additionally, a prolific offender that possessed warrants from the Crowsnest Pass, High River and Nanton was located in his residence and arrested. Several valuable items were recovered at the scene including a dirt bike, quad, scooter and a brand new set of tires.
We wish all students heading back to school a great year!
