The Claresholm Arts Society wants to take you to a place where a young woman, mistreated by her stepmother, is transformed and meets her Prince.
Preparations are under way for the arts society’s production of “Cinderella”, with auditions taking place at the community centre on Sept. 8 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sept. 9 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
It is also the Claresholm Arts Society’s 10th anniversary.
“We are very excited to be doing our 10th anniversary production,” said Carmelle Steel of the arts society.
According to Wikipedia “Cinderella” is a story about a young woman forced into a life of servitude by her cruel stepmother. She dreams of a better life, and with the help of her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella is transformed into an elegant young lady and is able to attend the ball to meet her Prince. In this version, however, she opens the Prince’s eyes to the injustice in his kingdom.
The director is Peter Morton, who brings a wealth of experience as an independent filmmaker and a performer in previous arts society productions.
Steel stresses this production of “Cinderella” is not he Disney version, but the Broadway version.
The cast will have eight to 10 main characters and an ensemble.
People who want to audition should come prepared to sing acapella or karaoke version.
They also have to be ready to do a cold read from a script provided, and be able to do some dancing.
Cast members will be asked to commit to four months of rehearsals taking place twice a week.
“Cinderella” takes the stage at the community centre early in the new year, with shows scheduled for Jan. 5, 6 ,7 , 8 and Jan. 12, 13, and 14.
Anyone interested in booking an audition can contact Dana McLeod at 403-625-6177, and she will book them into a 15-minute time slot.
