Brown, Susan Marie

May 17, 1959 – June 29, 2020
Susan Marie Brown, born in Claresholm to Gordon and Mary Brown on May 17, 1959, passed away in Sidney, B.C. on Monday, June 29, 2020, with her family by her side. Susan is lovingly remembered by her husband, Arthur Todd; step-children, Travis Todd, and Liberty Todd-Morel (William Morel); father, Gordon Brown; sister, Judy Bolton (Kevin); and brother, Doug Brown (Janeen); granddaughter Kaia; nieces, Summer Duval; Megan and Brandele Brown; nephew, Dempsey Bolton and cousin’s Patti (Brian) and Sarah (Tim). She was predeceased by her mother, Mary; sister, Barbara; Aunt Sadie and Uncle Bernie.
While Susan left Claresholm in 1977 for university first in Edmonton and later Victoria, to study law, she remained a Southern Alberta Rose at heart, visiting often and participating in the culture and community of her birthplace.
Upon completing law school in Victoria, Susan’s professional life saw her working in the Vancouver area, and later, on Vancouver Island. Her zest for life and adventure, however, took Susan (and Arthur) sailing as far south as El Salvador on their trimaran, where she enjoyed making new friends and memories, as well as welcoming old friends and family who came to visit.
Along with sailing and travel, Susan had a multitude of eclectic interests and accomplishments.
She enjoyed reading, collecting, music (she was especially proud of the musicianship of her nieces and nephew) and special days and traditional holidays, events that were celebrated in grand style. Susan loved all things Disney and adored her cats Sailor and Bonita. Susan was noted for her style, her glamorous wardrobe, exquisite jewelry, dazzling hats and her extensive number of devoted friends. She lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment.
In the last few years, while courageously battling a motor neurone disease, Susan remained steadfast in her commitment to family, friends, and fun. Her quick sense of humour, her kindness and thoughtfulness and her zest for good food and wine never left her and were a testament to her indomitable spirit and a lesson in class and courage to all of us fortunate enough to know her and share in her life journey.
Susan will be honored with a Funeral Mass at Christ the King church on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow.
Donations in sympathy for Susan may be made to the ALS Foundation, or a charity of choice.
As for me, I am already being poured out as a libation, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
