Randolph (Randy) Marshall Smook passed away August 30, 2019

Randolph (Randy) Marshall Smook passed away August 30th after a quick but valiant battle with esophagus cancer, with his devoted partner of 33 years Arlen at his side.

Randolph is survived by his mother Anne, sister Rhonda (Gary), niece Victoria, nephews Johnathan and Michael. He was pre-deceased by his father Marshall.

Among Randolph’s exceptional talents was his passion for gardening which brought him immense joy and allowed him to enjoy watching the local bird wildlife. His cooking skills were of the highest caliber and dinner parties were meticulously planned and enjoyed. But Randolph’s main event was debating politics with anyone who had an opinion – he definitely held his own and relished a good debate. Randolph was a proud graduate of the Interior Design program at the University of Manitoba. He was deeply saddened to leave behind the tight group of university friends called the “Thanksgiving Waifs” with whom he celebrated that holiday for over 45 years. Their friendship brought him immense joy and he was deeply grateful for it.

Arlen and Brigitte (niece) would like to gratefully acknowledge with sincere thanks the medical personnel involved in Randolph’s care – his long time doctor Dr. Albert Tsang, his palliative doctors at St. Mike’s Hospital – Dr. Jonathan Ailon and Dr. Andreas Laupacis. In addition to the nursing staff at Casey House for their exceptional compassionate care particularly Melisa, Sonya and Irene.

Randolph wished to have an environmentally friendly exit from this earth and therefore no formal funeral has been planned. His final wish was for friends to plant a tree locally and enjoy a delicious meal at their favorite restaurant in his memory.
