May 2, 1922 – July 16, 2018
It is with sadness we announce the passing of our uncle Oscar Markle at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre, Claresholm on July 16, 2018 at the age of 96. Oscar was predeceased by his wife Frances, parents George and Emilie, brothers Emil and Orvin, sisters Louise Fullen and Ruby Andrews and their spouses and a nephew George Markle. He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Len Fullen, Cheryl Rosneau, Darry Markle, Jan Anderson, Twyla Andrews, Collin Markle, and their children.
Oscar was born, raised, educated, worked, lived, and died in the Claresholm area. He was married to his wife Frances in 1947, and together they operated a very successful farm, and pursued a great variety of interests together: golf, curling, flying, fishing, and hunting for native artifacts.Oscar was a dedicated hunter and spent countless days in the hills and mountains pursuing that passion. He was a meticulous craftsman, and together he and Frances built two houses in Claresholm. They had no children, and following Frances’ death in 1998 Oscar lived alone in their large house, then at Cottonwood Village, and finally in the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre.
Oscar was a faithful member of St. Peters and later Peace Lutheran Church. Most Sundays he would arrive early for services and sit alone for some time in quiet meditation.
A Funeral Service for Oscar will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, Claresholm at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
If desired, memorial donations may be made directly to the “Claresholm Chaplaincy Program” (please add this to the memo line of cheque) c/o Claresholm & District Health Foundation Box 2638, Claresholm, Alberta T0L 0T0.
