September 2, 1924 – April 26, 2018
With sadness, we announce the passing of our mom and grandmother, Peggy Markle at the Claresholm General Hospital on April 26, 2018 at the age of 93.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Iris Hetherington, brother Art Hetherington, husband Emil and son George. She is survived by her son Collin, four dearly loved grandchildren: Grant, Laura, Claire and Logan, and seven nieces and nephews.
Peggy was born, raised, educated, worked, lived and died in Claresholm. She was born into a “telephone family”. Her father and brother worked for Alberta Government Telephones, her mother worked as a telephone operator and Peggy was an operator for her last two years of high school and until her marriage to Emil Markle in April, 1944. From that time until a move to town in 1986 she was a farm wife and mom with all the joys and sorrows that entails.
Peggy was a talented musician and she served the Lutheran Church as organist for many dedicated years. She also sang in the Community Choir, accompanied the Seniors’ Choir as pianist and continued to play until arthritic hands could play no more.
She was a devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church and freely contributed her talents and abilities.
Peggy continued to live in her own home with the help of family, neighbours, home care services, meals-on-wheels and house and yard keepers until she entered hospital in early April. It pleased her very much to be able to stay in her own home and it was always a warm and inviting place to visit.
A Memorial Service for Peggy will be held at Peace Lutheran Church (4304-2 Street West, Claresholm) at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 4, 2018. If desired, memorial donations may be made directly to the Claresholm and District Health Foundation (Box 2638, Claresholm, Alberta T0L 0T0).
