HADLEY, Gail Alberta

It is with great sadness the family of Gail Alberta Hadley (nee Smith) announces her passing on May 17, 2018 after only one day at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit in Lethbridge. She was 79.

Mom was born in Calgary on March 26, 1939, but she was raised in Berwyn, AB. She married a banker and that set her on a course of numerous transfers that would take them to Calgary, Red Deer, Claresholm, Camrose, Wetaskiwin and Ft. Macleod.

The simple things in life made Mom happy. She enjoyed her crosswords, gardening, curling, golfing – oh, how she loved to golf – and playing her piano. Mom always had time for a coffee and loved visiting with her friends, especially her life-long friend, Arlene, with whom she shared many memories and much laughter.

Most of all, Mom loved her family. She said all she ever wanted was to be a Mom and she was a great one. She loved visits with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her brothers and sisters-in-law. She was also happy to spend every day with her furry best friend, Ceba.

In 2011, illness led her to Lethbridge to live with her youngest daughter. After an initial diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, she beat it for 6 years and made the most of her time, appreciating every day.

Mom will be dearly missed by her children, Gene Evans of Lethbridge, Randy (Jackie) Hadley of Hamilton and Deb Hadley of Lethbridge. She is also survived by her grandchildren Aaron and Cameron Evans of Lethbridge, Amanda (Steve) Everett of Calgary, Nicholas Hadley of Calgary, Jessica and Lauren Wallace of Hamilton and her great-grandchildren Ciel and Odin. Mom is also survived by her brothers Art (Ella) Smith of Spruce Grove and Douglas (Janet) Smith of Berwyn.

Mom was predeceased by our Dad, Jim, and her parents, Art & Dorothy Smith.

Even though Mom spent the last years of her life in Lethbridge, she always considered Ft. Macleod home. Keeping with her desire that no one make a fuss, Mom asked to have a family service with no funeral.

For those wishing, in lieu of flowers, Mom would appreciate any donations being made to the Ft. Macleod Handibus Society, Box 881, Ft. Macleod, AB T0L 0Z0.
