Claresholm Novice Thunder hockey team splits weekend games

The Claresholm Novice Thunder proved again Saturday that a hockey game is never over until the final whistle.
With Brooks leading 7-4 and just over nine minutes to play, things looked bleak for the Thunder on Dec. 15.
Then, with 4:41 to play, Colin Fancy beat the Brooks goalie on the glove side to close the gap to 7-5, with help from Bergen Flynn.
The momentum had shifted.
Brooks did have a breakaway, but Claresholm goaltender made a big pad save to preserve the score.
Claresholm began to press, and it paid off as Preston McLeod closed the gap to 7-6, assisted by Fancy and Easton Wright, with just 54 seconds to play.
Coach Jason Bishoff called time to set up a play.
The Thunder came out of the time out and swarmed the Brooks net, but just could not score the tying goal, losing by a 7-6 score.
Also scoring for the Thunder were Wright, assisted by McLeod; McLeod, unassisted on the power play; Fancy, assisted by Ty McLean; and Wright, assisted by McLeod.
The Thunder were back on the ice at the Claresholm Arena on Sunday, Dec. 16, where they defeated Redcliff by a score of 13-6.
Scoring for the Thunder were McLeod, assisted by Lilly Ferguson and Liam Schuler; Flynn, assisted by Schuler and Edward Franz; Fancy with two unassisted goals; McLeod with two unassisted goals; Parker Bishoff, assisted by Ferguson; Flynn, assisted by Jacob Penner and Bishoff; McLeod, unassisted; Fancy, assisted by McLeod; Fancy, assisted by Penner and Ryan Van Langen; Franz, assisted by Flynn and Van Langen; and McLeod, unassisted.
