January 5, 1937 – December 5, 2018
Norman Peder Johnson passed away peacefully on December 5, 2018 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary surrounded by loved ones. Norman is predeceased by his parents Julius and Magna, and brothers Marvin and Stanley, and nephew Chad. Norman is survived by his sister Louann, his son Neil (Valerie) and grandson Nikolai, as well as niece Coralie, and nephews Craig, Brent and Jason, and many younger family members.
Born in Claresholm and raised in Granum, Norman was a hard worker who made the most of his chance to go to technical college in Calgary. He was hired by Alberta Government Telephones and spent nearly 35 years at the company climbing the ranks, ultimately helping design the telecommunications system for the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988.
He inspired his family and friends with his sharp mind and good sense of humour, and never lost his love for learning new technologies and latest gadgets, and would show everyone what his Apple watch could do.
But it was family that was most important to Norman, who would never miss a family birthday party, Christmas dinners where he would bring the Norwegian lutefisk, and would always send a card to extended loved ones on each special occasion. His kind, generous heart will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 15th at 11:00am at the Peace Lutheran Church in Claresholm, Alberta with a reception to follow. If desired and as an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian National Institute of the Blind would be appreciated by his family.
