People had the chance last week to sign a petition seeking a referendum on the question: “Do you agree that Alberta should remain in Canada?”
Jackie Chalmers was downtown seeking signatures on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
The group she is with needs to gather at least 300,000 signatures, representing 10 per cent of the electorate who voted in the 2023 provincial election.
The deadline is Oct. 28.
Chalmers noted this is one step in the process to advance the referendum question.
“We’ve had great response,” she said, adding the response is building.
Chalmers stressed the petition is to have a referendum. Anyone can sign, whether they want Alberta to separate from Canada or not.
“This is for everybody,” she said.
The goal is for everyone to have their say.
“We believe this is important because there is so much uncertainty,” Chalmers said. “We need certainty.”
