M.D., Stavely to partner on infrastructure master plan
By Rob Vogt
The Municipal District of Willow Creek has agreed to partner with the Town of Stavely to secure funding for an infrastructure master plan.
The decision came at M.D. council’s Aug. 13 meeting, after they reviewed a letter from Dacia Sundquist, Stavely’s chief administrative officer.
She explained the Town of Stavely is preparing to submit an application under the Alberta Community Partnership program, specifically under the intermunicipal collaboration stream.
The town is seeking the M.D.’s partnership in this application to jointly develop an infrastructure master plan.
The proposed plan will evaluate existing municipal infrastructure within the Town of Stavely and help prioritize capital projects to ensure long-term service reliability and sustainability.
A key component of the infrastructure master plan will be the development of a comprehensive 10-year capital plan.
“We believe this collaboration is mutually beneficial given the shared boundary between our municipalities,” Sundquist said. “The plan will help collect important transportation and servicing data that is critical not only for our local planning but also for ongoing and future Municipal Development Plans (MDPs between the Town and the MD).”
The findings of this plan can inform regional priorities, support evidence-based decision making, and enhance service delivery coordination.
“We respectfully ask the M.D. of Willow Creek No. 26 to consider partnering with the Town of Stavely on this important initiative,” Sundquist said.
As the managing partner, the Town of Stavely will prepare and submit the Alberta Community Partnership application, and ensure the M.D. is fully involved in project scoping, data collection, and final recommendations.
Council then unanimously agreed to collaborate with the Town of Stavely.
