Taber Alberta will host the 2025 Canadian Handgun Nationals from July 28 to August 3
For the first time since 2017, Alberta will host the Canadian Handgun Nationals, bringing the top practical shooters from across the province and country to Taber. The week-long competition will test the skills of Canada’s sharpest shooters and showcase the beauty of Alberta’s local communities.
This event not only highlights excellence in marksmanship but also Canada’s responsible firearms community that exemplifies safety, discipline and sportsmanship.
Alberta’s government provided $50,000 in funding through the Major Sport Events grant program to support the competition. This grant program provides financial assistance to support organizations in hosting national and international competitions, including facility rentals, venue enhancements and promotional and marketing campaigns in Alberta.
“Alberta is proud to host the 2025 IPSC Canadian Handgun Nationals. This top tier competition will be a thrilling showcase of skill and sportsmanship while also highlighting the warm hospitality and charm of southern Alberta. Events like this reinforce Alberta’s reputation as a world-class destination for competitive sport, while emphasizing the importance of standing up against federal overreach.”
Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism and Sport
The competition will welcome 420 competitors, featuring 173 Albertans and is projected to generate up to $1 million for the provincial economy as participants shop, dine and stay locally. Events like this are a boost to both local businesses and Alberta’s growing reputation as the best place for outdoor and shooting sports.
“Our club is proud to host and unite Canadian competitors at the 2025 Handgun Nationals in Taber. This event showcases the strength, skill and spirit of responsible sport shooting in Canada and is made possible by the support of the Government of Alberta, The CCFR and the firearms community.”
Rob Mckenzie, match director, Chinook Country Shooters Club
Competitive shooting, like other precision sports, promotes responsibility, discipline and athletic excellence, values proudly supported and shared by Albertans. Hosted by the Chinook Country Shooters Club, the event is sanctioned by the International Practical Shooting Confederation and will feature dynamic, fast-paced stages that test athletes’ accuracy, speed and strategy over seven days of high-level competition.
By supporting national and international competitions, our government is further strengthening Alberta’s reputation as a premier destination for major sport events.
