Lions contribute to museum; always welcoming new members

The Claresholm Lions Club recently made a financial contribution to the Claresholm and District Museum, the latest in a long list of contributions to worthwhile community organizations.
Lions President Lynn Heward was at the station building of the museum on Thursday, Aug. 1, where he presented an $800 cheque to Bill Kells, executive director of the museum.
The funds were the proceeds from the Father’s Day pancake breakfast the Lions put on at the Claresholm Social Centre on Sunday, June 16.
The day also featured a car show hosted by the Porcupine Hills Classic Cruisers vehicle club.
Kells and Heward both said the event was a great partnership between the friends of the museum, social centre, and car club.
“It’s a great working relationship,” Kells said. “Looking forward, we want to do that more.”
Heward agreed, adding the club always invests back into the community, and is looking for new members to do that.
Membership in the Lions is open to men, women and couples.
He said being a Lion provides a sense of purpose, belonging, and a chance to give back to the community.
Anyone interested in joining can talk to a Lion if they know one.
However, that is not a prerequisite.
People are free to come to a Lions meeting the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Claresholm Community Centre.
“You’re just welcome to show up,” Heward said. “You don’t need a Lion to bring you.”
He added there is one more benefit.
“It makes you feel part of the community at the end of the day,” he said.
