Granum cuts ribbon on new playground in Granview Park

There was no better time to officially commemorate a new playground in Granum’s Granview Park then on Canada Day, when children where playing in the park, the water – and on the new playground equipment.
Kim Berreth emceed a ribbon cutting on July 1, where she expressed her appreciation to all the individuals and organizations who came together to build this new playground.
The provincial government, through the Community Facility Enhancement Program provided a grant of $25,000 for the project.
“This wonderful program provides financial assistance to upgrade, expand, purchase or build public-use community facilities,” Berreth said.
The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta also provided a grant of $10,000 for the project.
“This organization manages charitable gifts from donors to permanent, income-earning endowment funds, and distributes the investment income earned to the registered charities their donors wish to support,” Berreth said, adding there were businesses who provided discounts as well.
“So many people cheerfully and willingly gave their time, effort, and energy to install the play equipment, site borders and pea gravel,” Berreth said.
The Granview Park board and employees supported this project as well.
“Our park and campground are true treasures in this community and we are lucky to have smart, capable, hard-working individuals who make it all happen,” Berreth said.
She noted several long-term campers also showed up and helped the build all weekend, along with other community members, neighbours and friends who volunteered their time.
Berreth also recognized the Municipal District of Willow Creek staff, from administration to public works, who did everything from excavating the site to picking up the playground equipment, hauling and moving gravel, and cleaning up the site.
“Please continue to look for ways to make our community better, by giving your time to support the many worthy organizations in our community,” Berreth said. “It never fails to amaze me what a committed group of forward-thinking people can accomplish when we work together.”
