March 18, 1942 – August 17, 2021
Eldon was born at the Grace Maternity Hospital in Calgary, AB on March 18, 1942, to Richard “Dick” and Helen Lyall, who have both passed on. Eldon is survived by Barbara, his loving, caring wife of 58 years who he adored, along with his maternal children and their spouses Douglas (Carmen) Lyall and Cheryl (Douglas) Stroh, his daughter outlaw and her spouse Adrienne (Mike) Pollock, his maternal grandchildren Matthew Lyall, Nathaniel Lyall, Rachel Lyall-Conkin and her spouse (Grandpa’s newest grandson Mikey), his step-grandchildren and their spouses Kelsey (James) Unrau, Karri (Scott) Lyons, Brian (Kenzie) Stroh, Nicole (Dustin) Kostek as well as 6 great step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters and their spouses Margaret-Anne (Ken) Schmidtke, Agnes (Frank) McInenly, Carol Lyall as well as his in-laws and their spouses Marguerite (Chris) Schmidt, Buster Davis, Bill (Carol) Davis, Hazel (David) Hopper; as well as cousins, aunts, uncles, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eldon is also survived by many other kids that were not his own, but who had the utmost respect and admiration for the man he was. Eldon was always willing to sit and talk, had the biggest hugs, and tried to give sage advice when it was needed. He had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back. Everyone always felt welcome, had a bed and a shoulder whenever it was needed. Many times, Eldon & Barb would count the shoes at the door to see how much breakfast needed to be made to feed everyone!
Eldon & Barb have lived in many different communities over their 58+ years, including Calgary, Erskine, Meadowbank/Cayley, Stavely, Nanton, and their final move was to the Porcupine Hills Lodge “Outbacks” just two short years ago in Claresholm. Throughout his many years, Eldon has made many life-long friends and we all have our own memories that we can cherish forever. Although we will all miss this gentle, compassionate, hardworking soul, we are relieved to see him free of pain and at peace. Barb cared for Eldon through to the end and she was holding his hand when he returned to his Maker.
We will be holding a Celebration of Life at Zentner Funeral Homes, 4917 1st Street West, Claresholm on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 1:00 PM with a luncheon to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Claresholm.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, we ask that donations be made in Eldon’s memory to the Claresholm Health Foundation (PO Box 2638, Claresholm, AB, T0L0T0). Eldon & Barb were both so very grateful for the wonderful care Eldon received at the Claresholm Hospital this past two years, especially the past 6 months and it’s Eldon’s final wish to be able to give back to them in this way.
