It is with profound sadness that the family of Eleanor Sylvia Sherman (Rose) announce her passing on Thursday October 15, 2026 at the age of 91. Eleanor was born on December 1,1934 in Claresholm, AB to Hector and Lisbeth Rose & was raised east of Granum, AB on the family farm. She attended high school in Granum and graduated in 1951. This was where Eleanor met the love of her life Bill & they were married August 22, 1953. They settled at the home farm west of Claresholm where they welcomed their first child Bonnie in 1954. Two years later, in the spring of 1956 their son Jim was born. Together they raised their family in a life built around farming and agriculture. Eleanor excelled at baking and cooking, fostering a love of home-cooked food that brought the family together for many memorable holidays & special occasions. Following her years on the farm and after raising her family, she pursued a career as a nursing assistant, dedicating 21 years to caring for others in her local community.
Eleanor was a woman of great faith and deeply loved her family. Guided by her strong faith, she was a devoted churchgoer who faithfully attended Sunday services throughout her life. Together Eleanor and Bill enjoyed travelling throughout the United States, creating cherished memories while visiting family and loved ones. She enjoyed a wholesome, low-key life and took great pride in watching her family grow and excel. A devoted grandmother & great grandmother – Eleanor and Bill rarely missed any extra-circular activities.
An adoring animal lover, Eleanor cherished the company of animals and had a special place in her heart for every creature. A passionate gardener, she found great joy in cultivating a beautiful yard filled with vibrant trees and flowers, alongside a garden that provided fresh food and home-cooked meals for her family.
Eleanor is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Bill; Son-in-law Wayne McIntyre, Daughter-in-law Sharon Sherman; Grandchildren Clark (Darlene) McIntyre, Grant McIntyre, Jared (Natalie) Sherman, Jaci (Dan) Scott & Ashley Sherman; Great grandchildren Hannah (Tyson), Sarah (Eric), Jeremiah, William, Brooke, Lozen, Holden & Rhyzen. She was predeceased by her daughter Bonnie, son Jim, great granddaughter Rebekah McIntyre & brother-in-law Pat Sherman; Parents Hector & Lisbeth Rose; Father-in-law Lloyd Sherman & Mother-in-law Kay Sherman; Siblings Hector (Donna) Rose, Jean (Chuck) Thomas & David Rose.
A truly special woman, Eleanor will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love and affection.
A celebration of life will be held at Zentner Funeral Homes – 4079 1st Street W, Claresholm, AB on Monday October 26, 2026 at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the local Claresholm Food Bank.
