Soup Bowl continuing on at Claresholm Social Centre

After a week of uncertainty and misinformation, it was business as usual yesterday for the Soup Bowl at the Claresholm Social Centre.
Last week, a post went out on social media at 8:50 p.m. on Jan. 14, that the “The Soup Bowl is permanently closed.”
The comment sent shockwaves throughout the community for the dozens upon dozens of people who gather weekly for a meal and an opportunity to socialize and get out.
The Soup Bowl is a board-governed society, and Sheena McDavid is the vice-president of the Claresholm Soup Bowl Society.
She said the community spoke and the volunteers spoke.
“It has to continue,” she said.
Consequently, the organization underwent some restructuring and the board met on Sunday, Jan. 19, where it was decided there will be no gap in service to the community.
“It will be operating the way it always has,” McDavid said.
That includes the full support of the Claresholm Social Centre who indicated they want the Soup Bowl to continue as well.
People are encouraged to follow the organization’s new Facebook page ”Claresholm Soup Bowl” as well.
“This program belongs to the community it serves,” McDavid said.
So, on Tuesday, Jan. 21, it was business as usual.
Lunch was free, or by donation if you can.
People came out, and were busy socializing over a hot bowl of broccoli cheddar or hamburger soup – the way they have been the past 16 months.
